Patching music together - collaborative Live Coding in Pd

"Live Coding" has established itself as a performance practice within the field of computer music in the last few years. One of the main motivations for this technique has been to provide a level of corporality of the performance and interaction between performers and auditory, since these are often lacking in traditional computer music as opposed to other music performance techniques. In this paper we present and environment suitable of Live Coding practice and discuss its fitness for interactive performance. Special focus is given to the representation of the performance from the audience's point of view. Finally we discuss ways of interaction between multiple performers on- and off-site that exceeds the traditional playing-hearing-listening cycle.
